Exposed Impacted Tooth Post-Operative Instructions

Serving St. Louis

Maintaining the integrity of the surgical site is crucial. If a surgical packing was put in place, refrain from disturbing it. This packing assists in keeping the tooth exposed. Do not worry if it becomes dislodged or falls out.

A certain amount of bleeding, which may manifest as redness in your saliva, is normal up to 24 hours after surgery. If bleeding continues beyond this, please reach out to us for further guidance.

Swelling is a natural part of the healing process after surgery. To reduce swelling, apply ice as per the guidance given during your preoperative consultation.

Hydrate yourself regularly. Avoid consuming hot foods or beverages. Opt for soft foods and liquids on the day of the surgery. Gradually return to your normal diet unless advised otherwise.

Pain Management

Post-surgery, you might experience some discomfort. If prescribed, take the pain medications as directed.

Oral Hygiene

Maintaining oral cleanliness is vital for optimal healing. Starting from the day after surgery, ensure your mouth is thoroughly clean after each meal. Brush your teeth carefully. Rinse with a warm salt water solution (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) four times a day. Continue this routine until the wound has completely healed.

Keep in mind, a clean wound heals more effectively and quicker.

Physical Activity

Limit physical activities right after surgery. If you plan to exercise, be aware that this could lead to throbbing or bleeding. Proceed with caution and always listen to your body's responses.
